Final Project!

This semester during Photography was a really fun experience. I learned that you can take pictures using different angles and I know what many settings on cameras are for now. Photography gave me time to think about what and who I really value in my life during the 7 days project. It taught me that people look different when they smile vs. when they don’t smile during the smile project. And I also learned that you can set up a set inside a place and it is unexpected when the person realizes it is fake. I had a lot of fun with my friends and pictures during photography. I still enjoy photography and want to continue learning about taking pictures when I go to High School. Now when I take pictures I use different techniques and I have to have good lighting because it makes my pictures come out better. The pictures I took before and after photography have a big difference and I’m happy I learned how to take better pictures. My favorite project was Black background because it thought me how to get the lighting in a picture right and how the lighting could affect a picture. Photography does not interest me as a career but I will continue to learn it in high school because it is fun to learn and helps me take better pictures. Down below is my favorite photo in photography because to me it is just so beautiful. This will be my last post and I will miss this class very much but I am looking forward to having it in high school next year!

Up really Close!

This project was based on zooming into things to create a beautiful and confusing picture. If people don’t know what the object is then that makes it better because they’ll have to figure it out. In order for this project to work I used Macro on cameras but on my phone I had to do something else because my phone of course doesn’t have Macro. On my phone I couldn’t use the zoom because the pictures would be blurry, so what I did was just bring my phone’s camera really close to the object and it made the pictures come out pretty neatly. Some challenges I had doing this project was to set the lighting on the devices I used, I didn’t know if it would be better with or without the flash, getting the cameras to focus was also another problem, and finding the objects to zoom into was also a big issue. If I had the equipment, time and the ability to get there I’d like photograph a droplet of water falling into a lake because that would be so beautiful to take a close up picture of. Down bellow are two of my favorite close up pictures. Click here to find the rest.

Set In Street

In this project we had to take pictures of a living room we made and it is supposed to look like a real living room but it is not. This project is inspired by a New York photographer called, Justin Bettman. What he does is he makes sets in public spaces and he leaves it there so if anyone wants to use it they can. The kitchen table project was inspired by Carrie Mae. We were trying to recreate her kitchen table pictures except she took her pictures in an actual kitchen table and we took ours in a set in street. To achieve the pictures we used Photoshop and some of the tools we used were first B&W then we used the Marquee tool to change the image to a vignette to make the pictures look more realistic. To tell the story of my family I’d take a picture of us in a our very first house and one in our new one to show our evolution and where we were from and how we changed. Down below is the set we used and a picture I took with my group. If you want to see the rest click here.

ACTION!!!

On this project we had to take pictures of people or objects in motion. Everything had to be in action and the pictures where hard. Something that helped me capture good pictures was to take lots of picture (spamming) of the thing in motion to capture the right ones. Some tips I’d give someone trying to take motion pictures are: first you have to be patient because not all pictures you take will work and it will take lots of work to find and take the right pictures. If I could I would like to photograph basketball or baseball or even football because I think those sports have a lot of action in them so I could have so many motion and action photos through those sports. Down below are two of my favorite pictures I took. If you want the rest click here.

My Values

I value God, Jesus and the bible because  I am a proud Christian and it is part of my culture. I don’t mind what others think of me and I know that God is with me at all times.

I value my studies and education because I want to b successful and attend a great college. If I want to be successful in life I have to be successful in my education, it’s a really big part of success.

I value my family because they mean the world to me. Some people out there don’t have families or lose their families and I just love my family no matter how much they annoy me or what they do to me. Without my family I’d be nothing because they are my everything and I rather die if it means saving them.

I value my friends because they are a big part of my life and they help build my character. My friends are really important to me and I love all of them. Even when we have out ups and downs at the end of the dat we still love each other. Friendship is something beautiful and having someone you could smile with is really something amazing.

I value Myself because my life is based on what I want it to be. Without myself what would I be? I am the only one who should affect my life and my choices have consequences which is why I choose to do the right thing and follow the right path.

I value my parent’s wedding and their relationship because I would never abt them to divorce. They raised me with love and taught me all I know. If they give up on each other then what ways should I guide my life? They never had any big arguments or insulted each other and I hope it stays that way.

I value food because food is what I need to survive. Food helps me grow and gain weight which I should probably reconsider but some food are healthy! Food is a good source of every nutrients I need to survive so I need food!

SMILE!!!

During this project we had to find 15 different people and take pictures of them smiling and one not smiling to see how they change and what people thought when they look at both pictures. I had to have 30 pictures in total. This project was a very challenging project and it was really hard. Some of the challenges was to find people who would accept to take a picture. They were not forced to take the picture so they had the ability to say no which made the project so difficult. Some changes that I saw was some people looking aggressive when they didn’t smile and others looking sad and depressed, but when they smile they look like a completely different person. When I was taking the pictures I was scared to ask some people if I could take pictures of them because when I first looked at each person I thought about how they could be just by looking at their faces. Even though I didn’t know them I pictured some ways they could act just because of how they looked. But When they smiled, I was so surprise of how different they looked when they weren’t smiling. When I asked people if I could take pictures of them I didn’t really bother ask them question because I felt like I was already taking up their time and it was awkward so I didn’t want to torture them more by asking questions. You can check out all of my photos here.

Light Graffiti

To be able to take my pictures I had to change the shutter speed to bulb so that we may be able to take the picture for the amount of time that we needed. The amount of time had to be enough because if it wasn’t then we would have to hurry up so that the timer doesn’t finish before we finish doing the graffiti. Something that worked was turning off all lights in the room and avoiding background lights as well. Something that didn’t work was if someone moved while we tried to take a shot of them then the picture would be blurry. Something that was very frustrating for me during this project was finding ideas as a team and being ready when it’s our turns to be taken a picture of. To take this project to the next level we could make harder and bigger scenes using light graffiti. Down below are two pictures my group took and if you want to check out the rest you welcome to click here.

LPMS stands for Lakeland Park Middle School.
G in this picture stands for my name which is Glory.

Rule Of Third

Here are two of the pictures I took using the rule of third.

On this photo I used the lines on the left. I applied it on the sun to make it come out this way.
For this picture I had the girl sit on those rocks then aligned her with the line on the right.

Something that worked during this project was using the grid on any camera because you could align the object or person to the lines to make it rule of thirds easily. While something that was hard was finding the perfect angle so that the picture comes out a specific type of way. The lighting was also a big issue because if you didn’t get a good lighting then your picture might not turn out the way you expect it to. At the beginning of the project, I thought it was going to be hard and I didn’t understand how the lines worked or how you could make an object fit on one of the lines. But now I think pictures look better with the rule of thirds applied to it because there is no main focus anywhere causing the audience’s eyes to travel around the picture. You could find the rest of my pictures here.

Portraits with Black Backgrounds

To take the pictures was a hard process but to edit them was easy. Taking the pictures needed a little amount of shutter speed so that the background stays black and not too light. Something that worked was putting the light directly on the person while something that didn’t work was putting light on the background because that would cause shadows and the point of this project is to avoid having any shadows in the picture. Down below are two photos of me and a photo I took. You can see the rest of the pictures here.

Portraits with white background

For this project we had to us a white background and use lights. We used the shutter speed to absorb the lights in the room for an amount of time so that the picture had a clear and white background. It took us a lot of time to figure out what we should use. We also had to adjust the ISO to make the camera sensitive to the light. Something that worked was having lights on each side. That contributed to making the background completely white. Something that didn’t work was when the ISO was too high or too low then the background would be either brownish or way too white. The reason the background can’t be too white is because if the background is too white the light will also block the person’s face or the person might not even be able to be seen in the picture. Down below is a photo of me and a photo that I took. You could check out the rest here.
