Light Graffiti

In this project, we took photos using light. To take the pictures, we had to change the shutter speed and ISO on the camera. We put our camera on bulb mode so we could leave the shutter open for as long as we wanted. We put the ISO at 200. We held down the shutter button and moved the light around to make shapes. Something that worked well was using a light-up ice cube as the light in my pictures. Something that didn’t work well was trying to move the light in a rainbow formation because we kept overlapping the lights. It was frustrating when someone tried to take pictures and wasted our time. If I were to take this project to the next level, I would take pictures with steel wool on fire. Overall, I really liked this project.

Lego Photos

In this project, we took photos of Legos as if they were real people. I used techniques from other projects, like getting close to my subject and rule of thirds. Something that was challenging in this project was taking the photos from the Lego’s head height, like their friend was taking the picture of them. If I could take 5 more Lego photos, I would take pictures of Legos on the beach, Legos sleeping, Legos hiking, Legos dancing, and Legos getting married. I liked this project because it was fun to make up the scenes that the Legos were in.

Getting Close

During this project, we took pictures of objects up close. We held our camera close to the object instead of zooming in. Something that worked well for this project was using the app VSCO to take the pictures. VSCO has a setting that changes the focus of the camera, and that helped my focus on the subject. A challenge that I had was finding things to photograph. It was also hard to make the camera focus on the subject. I think that it would be cool to photograph a bee on a flower. Overall, I liked this project.

Action Photos

In this project, we took pictures of objects and people moving. For example, I took pictures of people jumping. For this project, I used burst mode on my phone. This let me take multiple photos at a time. A tip that I have for taking action photos is to take them outside, so the photos aren’t blurry. If I could photograph any sport, I would photograph swimming because the water moving would look really cool.

Framing Your Subject

In this project, we framed our subject using objects in and around the school. In this project, we placed our subject in the center of the picture, unlike in rule of thirds, where we put our subject in a place other than the center. A challenge that I had was figuring out what to frame my subject with and it was hard to center the photo.

This photo is my favorite because we never get to use the elevator at school, so it was fun to take this.

Rule of Thirds

In this project, we took pictures using the rule of thirds. Rule of thirds is when there is a grid, and your subject is on a line or intersection of the grid. This causes the viewers eye to travel throughout the picture instead of looking at one place. Something that was difficult for me was figuring out what to take pictures of. It was easy to put the subject on line or intersection of the grid.

In this photo, I put the eyes of the smiley face on the intersections of the grid.
In this photo, I put Madison on the left vertical line of the grid.

Portraits with an Infinite Background

In this project, we took pictures of each other on white and black backgrounds. We had to adjust the ISO, Shutter Speed, and F-Stop on the camera. When we took the photos, we had to make sure that there was no shadow in the background. When I edited my photos, I adjusted the curves so the backgrounds didn’t have shadows on them. Something that worked was holding the lamp behind the person that was in the picture. The ISO was hard to figure out because it was different for each person.

5 Shots

In this assignment, we took pictures of objects from 5 different angles. A challenge I had was choosing which objects to photograph. The flag was the hardest object to photograph because I couldn’t move it around. This assignment helped me find interesting angles to take pictures from.

24 Colors

In this assignment, we took a box of 24 crayons and tried to find the colors in the real world. A challenge I had was finding all of the different colors of blue (there were 5). Something that I found easy in this assignment was finding the colors gray and black, because those colors are common throughout the school.
