Pro’s vs. Joe’s

Within this entire semester as a photographer, we have been taught different settings to use on a camera for certain types of photos. Like using Macro to take close up photos. My thoughts about this photography class has changed for the better. I used to think this would have been difficult in many different ways, but, as time went on, I started seeing how simple, well not really that simple, taking photographs can be. You just have to know what you are doing and what subject or object you are taking, whether it is a scenery or anything else. I have changed how I took photos in a way. After learning the rule of thirds method, I noticed that it makes the object stand out a bit more. Of course, I don’t use it for all of my photos, but just for some. My favorite project in this class would have to be the “Up Close” project. This was my favorite project because it didn’t really take a lot of skill, you just needed to use macro and get close enough to the point where you can see the object without it being blurry. I don’t want to be a photographer as my career, but I would continue on taking photos and learning different ways and settings. This means that I may be interested in taking photography next year as well during high school.

This photo was probably one of my favorite photo that I took.

Up Close

In this project, you are required to take pictures up close. You must set your camera settings to macro to take the best close up pictures. In total, you should have at least taken 10 pictures using macro or any other apps if your on your own mobile device. The one thing that did work was finding the best angle and the best distance. The only thing you will probably change is the subject, distance, and position. The hardest thing in this project would have been finding a subject. I wanted to make sure that if I were to take pictures, I would not take a picture of the same exact subject I just took. There were not problems with the camera or rearranging the settings. If I had better equipment and the time, I would attempt to find a living or nonliving bug and take as many pictures as I can with as many angles.

Set in the Street

The project, Set in the Street, was “inspired” by a photographer who created this photography project, Justin Bettman. In order to do this project, we must find a open place like a town (in this case inside a school) to set up a scene in the middle of the streets, hallways, sidewalks, etc. We also had to use Carrie Mae Weems photography project, the Kitchen Table project. This required us to take 4 photos of a scene on the kitchen table in black & white. After taking the photos, we had to make the 4 photos black and white. After that, we had to do any cropping that was necessary. We then used the elliptical marquee. We then had to click select on the top of the screen and hover the mouse over modify. Click “Feather” and set a number between or on 150 – 200. Go back to select and click on inverse. Click on the graph on the middle left side to set the darkness of the top of the photo. If I could choose a place to take photos, I would choose the one place where my parents first met, which was in Taiwan. The pictures you could see may include a lot of photos inside or outside of my parents car because that is where I spend more time with my family.

Catch The Action

In this project, we had to capture images of people or things doing something. In total, we needed to take around 50 because of the amount of people within my “group” Each person had to take 8-10 pictures of different actions. Once we had finished taking the pictures, we need to crop most of the images. When taking the pictures, you are recommended to have the shutter speed set to 1/800. You also want different angles or positions to capture the best photo you can. A sport that I would love to photograph would be soccer mostly because I play soccer.

7 Days

This is a picture of a fish tank. This picture symbolizes my loves for marine or aquatic creatures. In this example, it shows a clown fish which I meant to take the photo as soon as the fish looked towards the camera.
I am thankful for all of my birds. One of the many animals I enjoy keeping as pets are birds. The fact that birds can be small means that you can learn to be gentle.
This is a picture food. Although this is not just any food, this is my mom’s cooking. I took this photo because I thought this could show how much I love my parent(s) cooking. Although it is not everyday that I think this way. Sometimes I think the food is okay.
This is a picture of sticks shaping a heart. I am thankful for this because whenever I look at it, it always puts me in a better mood. It also motivates myself to always treat one another with respect and always be responsible.
This is a picture of a crystal kind of rock shaped like to hearts. This symbolizes the love my family have for each other. Whenever I look at this, it reminds me of how much we care for each other and how much we support one another.
This picture saying “I think you are MAGIC” is one of my many motivations to work hard everyday. This picture symbolizes my thinking of how much I can change in order to achieve certain goals.
I am thankful for all of the fun times my family and myself had during a trip to the beach. All of the wonderful trips stopped my sorrows and made everyone happy. There are some people who does not like to go outside, so they won’t know what it feels like to have fun in a nice outdoor weather.

Smile

For this project, we had to take 15 pairs of photos and each of the 15 has to be a different person. So 2 photos every person. In one of those photos, the person has to smile and on the other, the person cannot smile. The most difficult part of this project is asking strangers to take their picture. This made things hard to find people because most people either reject or they just look intimidating and we are just too scared to take their photos. Every one of those 15 people has a different change. Whether they don’t even change or they just look like a completely different person. Being bias as a photographer can change our way of seeing others. If the photographer saw them in a bad way, he/she is just losing more and more opportunities. As a photographer, you are expected to be fair. In order to take fair photos, you have to ask your client certain questions. Some questions you might ask could be as simple as this, “What do you consider yourself?” or, “What achievement do you consider to be your best. You don’t want to ask questions too personal.

Light Graffiti

In this project, we created light graffiti’s using light. We had to change the camera setting to bulb. We then had to hold down the button on the camera that takes the photos. This will make the camera track the light until we let go of the button. What worked in this project was setting up the camera setting and taking the picture. The hardest part of this project was drawing something with light towards the camera without knowing where you have already drawn with your light. We could use a a mirror to reflect light towards the camera.

Rule of Thirds

The things that worked in this project was finding the right spot to take the rule of thirds pictures. The hardest part of the project was matching the main object with the lines. In the beginning of the project, I thought that it would be easy to find somewhere to take pictures and line the object up with the lines. It started getting harder, but just slightly. The main image of the shot would be taken somewhere on the lines or where the two lines intersect.

Portraits: Black Background

In this project, we were required to use certain settings in a camera to take the perfect photo on a black background. We had to mess with the shutter speed in order to get just the right amount of  light so others can see us. The easiest part of this project was taking the photos and sometimes cropping the photo. The hardest part was not having the urge to wear something black or something dark.

Portraits: White Background

In this project, we were required to take photos of yourself and others on a white and black background with some lighting. We had to use certain camera settings to get the perfect picture without and brown spots on the background. We also need to go to photo shop to try and remove any brown spots. The things that worked was taking  the actual pictures. The most difficult thing was not wearing white. To see the other pictures, click here
