#ProLevel

I had a lot of fun this semester of photography class. Our class has done so many different projects and each of them has shown me something new about photography.  A lot of our projects were collaborative projects, like Light Graffiti. I didn’t even know that it was even possible to draw with light using a camera before this class. I have had a lot of fun with all the projects I’ve completed and they drove me to take pictures outside of school. This class completely changed the perspective of photography. It is so much more than taking a picture. I had never really thought about what it takes to be a photographer and to take good photos. It is much harder than I would have originally imagined, but also more entertaining. I think that it is really fun to use these techniques to improve my photos. I now use what I have learned when I’m taking any photo and it has definitely improved the quality of my photos. My favorite project that we have done this semester was the macro. I loved how you could make any person that looks at the photo only look at one thing. I also liked taking close up pictures because they looked as our generation says “aesthetically pleasing”. I think I will most definitely take photography next year in the 9th grade its a fun and creative thing that I like to do. In conclusion, this is the best elective I had ever chosen in the 3 years that I have had to choose an elective. Here is the link to my scavenger hunt photos. Here are my scavnger hunt photos.

The Final Post

My class and I started with Taking pictures of crayons from then we have been learning how to control cameras. We also found out how to use lighting to our advantage and rule of thirds. We have been challenged to take pictures of things up close and on a studio. I didn’t realize there was so much effort into taking photos. When I take photo I make sure everything is right from the different settings and lighting. I think my favorite project was the Up close project because it was interesting to look at everything from a different angle. It does interest me as there are so many things in this worlds that I can show people with photos and could be a career. I think I will take this during high school as the challenge is very fun.

This is my favorite photo that I took.

Getting Close

My Project for this week was to take photos of things up close. (also called Macro photos) It is interesting to see what things are made up of. One thing that worked well was taking pictures in a well lighted room. If I took photos in the dark you wouldn’t see as much detail. There weren’t many challenges during this project although it was difficult to get the camera to focus. it was fun experimenting with the different objects in front of a camera. If I could I would like to take macro photos of bugs because they are very fragile yet complex

Set In the streets

In the project, we had to use a kitchen setup in our school to make it seem like we are actually in a house with a kitchen. Each picture should have a story behind it. We also used photo shop to make the pictures black & white. These photos are inspired by Justin Bettman and Carrie Mae Weems who are the ones who I go the idea from for this project. In photo shop we turned the pictures into black and white and used several steps to make the lamp light focus only on the table. I would tell my family story in my living room because my parents have lived in their house for 21 years and many memories that took place in our living room. The would be photos of two kids growing up and many happy and angry memories.

Action

For this project, we had to capture a moment of action in a photo, but there wasn’t supposed to be any blur. To take a picture of someone in action or doing something I used “burst” (Which is holding down the white button in the middle of the screen).  Also Taking pictures at a closer angle looked better than father because there could be more blur if you took a picture from a far. I tried not to use boring angles such as just straight forward angles I tried getting angles that were different from others. Also going outside and taking pictures worked very well for me because natural sunlight or light looks way better than if you were taking pictures outside. If you were going to do this assignment you should definitely use burst mode on your iphone or if your using a camera set your shutter speed so it could take pictures faster. I would like to photograph football because you could catch crazy tackles people toppling over each other I would get great photographs each time. You can find the rest of my photos Here.

Things in Motion

This project was about getting pictures of things in motion. This could be anything from someone jumping to a ball being thrown. It was difficult to get the shot at the correct moment. I found that my phone was best during this project because you could take many photos in one second so there is a good chance you will get the shot you need.  We also got very lucky with the weather working out well for us to get the best photos. For people who haven’t tried taking action photos i would recommend having the best lighting and cameras take time to realize you snapped for a photo so you have to compensate for that delay. If I could I would want to take pictures of a baseball game because I love the game and there a lot of things that happen that people can’t see

Thankful

I am thankful for my dog Jam. She cheers me up when I’m down and shows many emotions. If I didn’t have my dog then I wouldn’t be as responsible as I am today. My dog has shaped into the person I am today.

I’m thankful for my house. My house keeps me warm or cools me down. Many people take for granted their house because u usually see your house everyday and forget how much you are thankful for it.

One thing most people aren’t so thankful for is deodorant. This life saver helps me from stinking up the joint and since I sweat like crazy, I have to be thankful for deodorant.

Many kids want to pursue a sport. I chose to play baseball and train a lot. I was lucky enough to have an experience of playing baseball across the eastern coast. I can say that all of my training led me up to the tournament in Cooperstown, New York where the best baseball players go to compete.(at my age of course) By playing in this tournament I received a ring which I am very thankful for.

One of the things I am thankful for but might not think is food. To represent my food is a box of Pop Tarts. Even though is might be funny they are truly delicious and I’m thankful for that food.

I’ve had my computer for a few years now and has never seemed to disappoint me. I’m thankful that my parents can buy me things that some kids aren’t as fortunate as me. Also, my computer has come in handy when needed for homework and checking my grades.

This whole year I was waiting for a new phone. This month my gift finally came as a iPhone XS. I plan to take care of this phone and I’m very thankful for it.

Smile Project

One of the difficult parts of this project was finding the motivation to go out and take photos. Also you would have to step out of your comfort zone and ask people if you could take their photo. Now I see people differently, everyone has a nice part to them even if it doesn’t seem like it from the outside and with one question, you can see that. Being bias as a photographer affects my job because some people seem intimidating and the possibility of the person saying no breaks down your motivation fast. When I ask someone if I could take their picture, don’t ask them to smile or not. If they don’t smile, then I will ask him if I could take a picture of him/her smiling and Vice versa.

Rule Of Thirds

For this project what was best was taking pictures outside because it is much easier to show what the person is doing or looking at. What didn’t work too well was taking a picture head on with it because sometimes you don’t know what is happening or what you are trying to capture. Before this project I didn’t think that rule of thirds was that important but after the project I realized it improves my pictures. The way rule of thirds works is that you have these imaginary lines on your photos. Ideally you want the big object either on one of the lines or where two lines intersect

Light Graffiti

We took our photos with a ISO of 80, usually  a shutter speed from 10 seconds to 30 seconds.  First, we had to come up with something to draw, the one person would take the photo while the others would draw the image with the amount of time we got and hopefully we got a good outcome. What worked was that if we used a bright light, it would show up better on the camera but, if we used a more dimmer light then it would show up as much. One of my frustrations is that when you would draw something and you think it will look good on camera but then it turns out really bad. We could take this to the next level by using more time to draw the photo and use many more different types of lights to make some cool creations.
