Frame

In this project, we took pictures through a frame or a space in the object. We took pictures of a person through the object. For example, we took a picture of a friend through two trees. In Rule of Thirds, we were supposed to make the subject be the attention of the project, similar to the Frame project. In the Frame project, we were supposed to put the subject in a frame. Here is my favorite picture.

This picture is my favorite picture because I like how my friend is in the middle of two trees and I really like the nature aspect of it. One thing that I found challenging was finding the frames inside because there are no good frames indoors. Outdoors, there are structures and there is nature so, it was easier.

Framing Your Subject

For this project, we had to be creative and find different gaps in buildings or breaks in structures to make one main focus in our photos. This helped to make our photos more creative and interesting. This is different from the Rule of Thirds project in many ways. Mainly, the objective is different. In Rule of Thirds, we had to have the main focus of the image on one or two of the thirds lines on our camera. The main idea in Rule of Thirds was to make your eye focus on one thing in the photo. This is similar to Framing, but instead you are using different objects to draw the attention towards the main focus, instead of the thirds lines. Pictured above is my favorite photo from this project, because I was able to create a double-frame to frame Ela. I really like how this picture turned out because Ela is focused between the stair railings, making it a very interesting photo. A challenge I faced when using this type of composition was thinking of creative ways to make frames, not just simple things like doorways.

Framing

In this project, we had to frame our subjects. I took pictures inside and outside with Anika as my subject and used many different regular structures to frame her. I like the photo below because. This was project was different from the rule of thirds project since your eye had to move around the picture, but here you wanted the subject to be the main focus. Some challenges were making sure the subject was in the frame in an aesthetically pleasing manner and finding aesthetically pleasing frames. I enjoyed this project more than the others. Framing Your Subject

This project was pretty easy for me. We had to use a person or an object and take a picture of them, while another object is framing them. For example, you could use a door frame and have a person inside the door frame. The door would be framing the person. The composition of this project differs with the rule of thirds one. For rule of thirds, the object is not the center and you see most of the background. This one, however, is normally the center and there really is no background. This photo is my favorite because I used a tree to frame her and I love trees. I also love it because the shadow falls really nicely on her face. Some challenges that I faced were making sure that the frame was interesting enough and not boring.

Framing Your Subject

In this project I needed to find objects or take pictures of people in some sort of frame. In the rule of thirds we had to use a grid to take the photo and the frame was imaginary. But in this project the frame is shown. My favorite photo is a picture of Gianna inside a circle because I think it represents this project really well because it shows the frame. Some challenges I faced was cropping the image to make it a perfect frame.

Framing Your Subject

For this project we had to use objects in our surroundings to frame the subject in our photos. For example in the picture above, I used the railing of the bleachers to frame and bring attention to the subject of the picture, Matia. This project is like the opposite of the rule of thirds. In this one we used our surroundings to bring attention to one specific part of the picture, while we used rule of thirds to create flow in the picture and let the eyes travel to other places. It was challenging in this project to line up the subject with whatever I was framing them and having the camera focus on the right thing.

Framing Your Subject

In this project, it was all about framing your subject and placing your subject in a frame. I took pictures inside and outside with Stephanie as my subject and framed her in various locations around school. This photo is my favorite because I framed her with natural shadow made by the trees around us. In my opinion, I think its really creative to frame your subject with a shadow because shadows can be difficult to take a photo of. This project was different from Rule of Thirds because in Rule of Thirds your eye had to travel back to something. In this project, the main focus was the subject. Some challenges were making sure the subject fit in the frame right, shooting locations, and making sure that it looked creative. Overall, I really enjoyed this project.

Framing your Subject

This project, hopefully, will continue to help you with composition. You’ve seen the rule of thirds, now let’s talk about using the environment you are taking photos in to help you frame your subject. Our school, even the inside, is a great place for this project. This a great project to show off your creativity. Just because you found something to frame your subject doesn’t mean that you will succeed with this project. Your subject is also part of this photo, make sure you have them involved in the shot (pose, activity, expression). I have been using the Lightroom CC App on my phone a lot lately for editing my photos. It has just about everything that Photoshop has. Below is the icon you will find in your App Store. VSCO is also a great app for this project, especially for those of you that don’t have portrait mode on your phones.
