This semester was amazing. I love this class so much. My thoughts on photography has changed so much. I learned that photography is more than just pressing a button. It’s about color, lighting, composition, framing, etc. The way I take photos has changed so much over the whole semester. My favorite project was the action. I loved taking photos of the strawberries!! I love photography so much and I am definitely continuing it next year and maybe travel places to make videos. Getting close
Getting close is a project where we had to take 10 macro photos of living and non living objects. One thing that worked well was my camera had a macro setting. One challenge I faced was it was hard to find objects to take photos of. If it were spring I would take photos of the butterflies and flowers. Click here for more photos.
Set in the Street
Our new assignment was to plan, assemble props, and take photos using our “Set in the Street”. We had to take and edit 4 photos using the color values found in the photos by Carrie Mae Weems. The other two people in the photo are two of my friends who are also photographers. Click here and here for their sites. On photoshop I used the elliptical marquee, black and white and contrast. If I were to take a photo like this with my family I would take it in the car because were there together all the time. You would see my whole family in the car, my sister, my mom and me. Action
This had to be one of the hardest assignments my teacher gave our class. Our next assignments were to take 8 to 10 action photos. I set my ISO to auto and my shutter speed was 320. It took me like 20 tries just to make it focused and applying the rule of thirds was a big challenge. Some tips I would give a person to take good action photos is to be patient. It doesn’t always work right away. I would want to photograph football because there is a lot of action in the game. Click here for more photos!
7 Days
Smiles
In this project we had to go up to 15 different strangers and ask to take two photos of them; one smiling and the other not. The project was kind of difficult because some people said no when I asked to take photos of them. My perspective of the person changed from the first photo to the second. Your bias could affect your job as a photographer by making the photo look like how you feel about the person. If I was hired to take photos of someone, I would ask them questions like “ How would you describe your personality?” and “ What are you interested in?” Click here and here for my photos!
Light Graffiti
Our assignment was to take light graffiti photos which was kind of a challenge but easy once I got it. I order to take the photos, I needed to set my cameras shutter really low between 30 seconds and a minute. Sometimes I would set it to bulb if I was unsure how much time I needed. I also had to make the ISO really low so it would capture the outside light. One thing that worked was the flashlight showing up in the photos. I a lot of things didn’t turn out the way we wanted, like the drawing was messed up and the words were spelled backwards. It frustrated us so much when we were writing words because you can’t see what your writing. My ideas for going next level is taking it outside and make like a painting. Rule of Thirds
Our assignment was taking four photos of people and objects with different backgrounds. One thing that worked was taking photos with the rule of thirds grid and taking photos of different people. One thing that didn’t work was taking photos with different backgrounds. I still don’t get what the point of having rule of thirds. My thoughts didn’t really change. While I was taking photos, I had to line the person/objects up on one of the lines. The lines showed rule of thirds. Click here for more.
Portraits
I changed the ISO and shutter speed really too slow to make the background all black. I also shined a light at the the side of the person to take out the shadows. Making the background endless worked, but the colors on the person ended up weird. Click here for more.
Portraits
I changed the ISO and shutter speed to make the background all white. I also shined a light at the white background to take out the shadows. Making the background endless worked, but the colors on the person ended up yellowish orange. Click here to see all of my photos.
