Pro’s vs Joe’s

As this is the last post of the class i will give a little review of the class and my post. It has been my favorite class of the semester as we get to really be artistic. My thoughts have definitely changed about photography as I now know it is harder. When I take photo’s now I always use Rule of Thirds so that it is a good photo. My favorite project was the Rule of Thirds as we had so much creativity. I don’t know if photography interest’s me in a career but I defiantly want to learn more.
This is my favorite photo of the class:

This project shows how my photo’s change and here is the Pro’s vs Joe’s

Newsuem field trip

Pulitzer prize
The first photo I picked was the Kosovo Refugees. It was taken in 1999 by Carol Guzy and shows a 2 year old named Agim Shala getting passed through a barbed wire fence at a camp ran by the UAE in Albania. When I first saw the photo I was overun with emotions as I was looking at a cute baby getting passed through wire almost getting hit and hurt. As a photographer I feel like I would have done the same as the Carol, just take the picture.
The second picture was called The Vulture and the little girl. It first appeared in the New York Times in 1993 and was taken by Kevin Carter. It’s of a little girl who collapsed in the foreground with a vulture eyeing her down in the backround. The picture hit me because you just see a little kid who is so sick and can’t do anything about it. As a photographer I don’t think I would have helped her as photographers were told not to touch people because they were sick and contagious.

Second exibit:
My second favorite thing was the sports movie called “PRESS BOX: THE HISTORY OF SPORTS REPORTING”. I liked it because it showed many of the most important sports moments ever and as a lover of sports I found it very interesting. As you got to see many of the sports greats reflect on there best plays then broadcasters reflecting on the worst times in sports it is a good mix of the good and the bad.

Then I asked them to smile

So I asked them to smile was are hardest project yet. We had to take 30 pictures of 15 different people where they were smiling in one and not in the other. The project was supposed to show how much presentable a person is by them just smiling. The use of lighting and rule of thirds can really make someone look differently and even scary if you use shadows correctly. As a photographer my job is to not stereotype people in my photos because just a smile can change everything

Set in the Street

In class this week we created a set. It was made of three 4×8 panels with dry wall on top of the frame. This project was a recreation of Justin Bettman’s famous project but instead of putting the set in a middle school it was outside in random places.  We started off by cutting 2×4’s to make the frame. Once we had all of the pieces cut out we made a rectangle and drilled the pieces together so we had a complete frame. We then laid drywall on top of it and had the three frames. After that we painted the dry wall grey to make it look like a real living room. Then we drilled the walls together to make it one stable wall. We then brought chairs, couches and a bookshelf from the teachers lounge. It worked when we used the props like the books in a good way and it didn’t work when we just sat there and looked at the camera.

7 Days

Although this is kind of a weird one I am thankful for my house. I have made so many memories here. I have lived in this house since I was 2 years old and have made friends there and well, it’s where I spend all of my time.

I know that this is odd just a picture of a scoreboard but I am thankful for it. I have so much fun at the QO games. Plus they finally beat Northwest in the playoffs. I have also been going to the games for such a long time and I have seen them lose in the playoffs so many times.

This next one is probably one that everyone is thankful for my parents. They are so supportive of me and are always there for me. Whenever I need something they can always help me and will always help me.

The next thing I am thankful for is lacrosse. I have been playing since I was 5 and I have made so many friends playing. Whenever I am bored I can just go outside and play.

I am thankful for my kitchen. It has made me closer with my dad when we cook together and also it has become a new hobby and interest for me.

I am thankful for my school. I have made so many friends and learned so many life lessons. Also without it I would have absolutely nothing to do.

Lastly, I am thankful for my brother. Even though we fight a lot I still love him and we can always play sports together.

Rule of Thirds

For the rule of thirds project we had to have at least four photos. One inside with people, one inside without people, one outside with people, and one outside with out people. For the photo’s in this project to work you have to take a lot of photos. For every one photo that looks good there were 5 bad photos. You had to take a lot of photos and just hope that one looks really good. The main thing that Rule of Thirds is, is that the main part of one photo is on one of the thirds graph where there are nine squares. It didn’t work when you just took one photo of something and left. You had to take each photo from many different angles. I think that this project was very fun but it was also very hard and probably the most hard one so far this year.

This photo is outside without people. I had the horizon on the top third. The end zone and part of the shadow is on the bottom third. And the goal post is on the bottom left.

Light Graffiti

This project was probably the most fun so far this year and the hardest too. It was fun because we could be creative in the light painting. To get the picture the way it is we had someone with Christmas lights throwing them up and down so you see the light streak. This worked because the shutter speed was at 15 seconds so that the light travels around. We had to move quickly too so the camera didn’t pick us up. It didn’t work when you moved slowly and then there was just random white lights. It was a lot of trial and error as it took 4 days to get 5 good photo’s. To take this project to the next level I think if we used mirrors or water in a cool way to make reflections. Also because so many people were doing this project at the same time there was a lot of light coming into the camera so it was hard. Because of that if we were in a bigger space it would be easier.

White Background

For this project I took the pictures on a manual camera. I put the ISO at around 800 to make it look good. I also put the F-Stop at 4.0 and shutter speed at around 1/60. You want the shutter speed at around this because it lets in a lot of light so the background looks infinite. To edit I messed with the curves to make the colors the way I wanted. I also changed the brightness and contrast to make a big difference between Antony and the background. It didn’t work however when you didn’t have people lighting up the background.

My favorite photo taken of me was by Antony and was this:

Black Background

For the Black Background project I tried many things out and this was my favorite. When taking pictures we messed with the camera changing the shutter speed, ISO, and F-Stop. It worked when the ISO was at 200 and the shutter speed was less then 1/100. Because the shutter speed is how much light is let through you need a low shutter speed. It didn’t work when ever there was too much light or too little, you needed the perfect amount of light. To edit the photo’s I used Adobe Photoshop and changed the saturation and messed with the curves. The link to the rest of my photos is here:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/UlmsAdfVErwWQ9Hn1

App Review

INSTAGRAM

My favorite editing app on my phone is Instagram. Even though it is pretty basic it still gets the job done and gets it done well. Although Instagram is known for posting pictures, as you can see down below it also does a good Job Editing.

BEFUNKY

My Favorite online reviewing app is Be funky, the URL is https://www.befunky.com/features/photo-editor/   . It is used for editing photo’s and making collage’s. Here is an example of a photo I edited with befunky in about 3 minutes. Befunky is my favorite online editing software because it is so easy and quick and there are so many options.
