#ProShot

This semester was very fun. My thoughts on photography have not changed. My sister and my father love taking pictures, and they’re very good at it. I’m just not as good as them, and I obviously won’t ever be as good, but I’m glad that I got to learn new techniques to make my pictures better. I have changed the way I take pictures. For example, when I was taking a picture of someone, I would want them to be in the middle. Now I know that if I want to have the picture focus on a person, you should put them on the thirds. Also, when taking a picture of a landscape, you want either 2/3 of the sky or the ground. One of my favorite projects was the Up Close project. I liked this project because it was cool to try macro shots. I will take photography in high school, but I don’t think I will need it for my career path.

Thankful

First, I am thankful for my chap stick. My lips are constantly chapped and this Carmex helps me.

I am also thankful for my phone. My phone helps me contact friends and family, and it’s always nice to have on me. It also helps me take pictures for photography.

I’m thankful for my bed because it is very comfortable. It lets me sleep.

Next, I am thankful for my absolute best friend Kayla. I have known Kayla for about 11 1/2 years. She has been there for me through everything and I have no idea where I would be without her.

I am also thankful for my siblings. I have two older siblings. They always help me with life choices and guide me towards the right directions. I don’t see them as much anymore because my sister has a job and my brother is in college, but I am still thankful for everything they do.

I am thankful for the Washington Capitals. I love hockey. They also made it to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Vegas Golden Knights. They better win.

Lastly, I am thankful for my cat, Luna. I have had her for 5 years and I love her. She is very, very fat, but that’s okay. I am also thankful that she wakes me and my family up at 4:30 in the morning because she’s hungry.

Catch the Action

For this project, I had to take 8-10 pictures of an object or person in motion. In order to get the right timing, I took a slow motion video in order to get the right frame. I would pause the video where I wanted it and use that frame as the picture. If you are taking action pictures on your phone, I would take a video so you get the whole action and pick the picture you want. I would like to photograph a swimming event, because you would see the water splashing, and I have a couple of pictures of myself swimming.

Getting Close

Outdoor pictures worked better and it was easier to find an object to take a picture of. Indoor pictures were harder to take, also finding objects inside were hard to find. It was also hard to focus on certain objects because you had to be very close up. If I had time, I would like to take pictures of flowers with raindrops on them.

Smile Project

For me, the most difficult part of this project was to tell people not to smile. They felt awkward, and didn’t really want to take the picture anymore. Some people looked very different when they smiled. They looked very mean and scary when they made a serious face. Although, once they smiled, they looked like a complete different person. Bias can affect photographers because they might want to take pictures of people, but might ignore some people because they don’t want to bother someone since they look intimidating. If I was taking pictures of people, I would ask them what they’re looking for in the picture. Here is my favorite picture:

App Review

Original:                                                  VSCO:

The name of the phone app I used is VSCO. On VSCO, you can edit pictures and even take pictures and videos on the app. I really like using this app because it has many different filters and ways to edit your pictures. Also, you can follow people and post your edited pictures for other people to see. I use this app to edit all of my Instagram pictures.

This website is also used to edit pictures. This website is different because you can add text and other cool details to your pictures. I like this website because it is very easy to use.

Light Graffiti

We took our pictures with professional cameras. We had to change our ISO to 100, F5.6, and our shutter speed differed on the picture. We had to press the button, and then move the lights around to say something or be something. Since we changed the shutter speed to a longer period of time, we have up to 15 seconds to draw.  It was pretty easy to draw the pictures with the light. Also, flooding people with the light so that you could see them worked. Although, sometimes the lights wouldn’t be facing the camera completely, or we wouldn’t get the right shape. It would be cool to get many different colors to make a really cool picture.

Newseum

I think a big struggle of taking these images is actually being at the event. This is because some events are very dangerous, like a war or a shooting. A  reward is winning the Pulitzer prize and making money. No matter what, you will always remember the event that you were at, whether it was good or bad. For the picture on the right, even though he couldn’t help the little girl out, I would not take a picture and find something to do to help her. For the one on the right, I could definitely take the picture since it’s pretty happy. Although, I wouldn’t be able to climb up the mound of bodies. The Berlin Wall was very cool. I think this is cool because they had a piece of the wall in the exhibit and it had cool graffiti on it.

Rule of Thirds

For the rule of thirds project, we had to take 8 pictures of objects and people using a grid on our cameras. For Caroline’s picture, I took it so that she was on the right vertical line. For the trash can, it was also on the right vertical line. It was hard to find good objects to take pictures of, and it was easier to take pictures of people. The lighting in every picture worked, but for some pictures, it was hard to place the person or object directly on the line. I liked this project because it taught me that putting a figure on one of the thirds actually draws attention to the object. The 3×3 grid helped me because it showed me directly where the thirds were and where the focus should be.

White Background

For this project, we had to take pictures in front of a white background to take a picture in front of a white background to make it seem like we were edited onto the picture. Putting the light in front of the background worked because it made the background look less grey. A struggle was the shadows behind us and the amount of light on our faces. Since we had to let more light in than the black background, we had to change the ISO and shutter speed. The shutter speed was longer and the ISO was higher. I think that the black background was easier because you didn’t need as much light and the shadows weren’t as much of a problem.
