Final Project

This semester I learned what phones can really do and how a camera’s quality all depends on how you use and experience it. In the beginning I thought photography was all about following the rules and zooming in the perfect amount, but it’s really about making the photos your own with creativity and unique abilities. I used to take photos in the same place at a straight angle but now I like to explore different angles to change the way my photos are perceived. My favorite project was “Getting Up Close.” This project taught me that phones can do a lot more than I thought, such as zooming in and still keeping the photo clear if you use the right techniques. I have thought about multiple times about becoming a photographer because I love being creative and exploring new styles. Photography is a great way to capture memories and look back at great times, and also times of tragedies. Overall, photography has been a great interest of mine for a long time and I’m happy I was able to experience this.

Going Up Close

This task was to see very up close an object of your choice, some living some non-living. It was your choice to use a camera or a phone, I chose my IPhone 8 that was sufficient for this assignment. There were multiple photo apps to help aid the quality of the photos but for the most part I stuck with the regular camera. I first focused the camera the gradually began to zoom in keeping the quality clear. Then I fixed the lighting so it was clear and bright. Lastly, I snapped the picture and it looked nothing like the zoomed out object because of how close it was set up. In this project I tried something new. I never knew IPhones could zoom in with that amount of definition and now I know they can so I will try it more often. If I had the tools to take a picture of something I would want to try to zoom in on sand. A grain of sand would be very hard to capture but I would like to achieve it.

Kitchen Table Project

This project was about showing various emotions and themes at a “Kitchen Table” setting. After taking these pictures we showed that the setting wasn’t actually at a kitchen table but it was a fake set-up. The actual project “Set in the Street” is inspired by a photographer named Justin Bettman.  The set was inspired by the work of Carrie Mae Weems and her Kitchen Table Project.  The tools I used for this project was in the beginning the marquee tool. I used this to make the outline for the shadow I was going to add. Then I experimented with the curve tool to darken the outline after I made it inverse. The shadow was too extreme so then I put the feathering effect and I added my logo to finish it off.  In conclusion, this assignment was very creative and interesting to make up our own themes for each picture.

Motion

In this project I titled “motion” we were sent outdoors to take a picture of someone or something moving. I have chosen 2 photos that represent motion. I chose one person and one object. The object was challenging because I had to let other people throw the object while I took the picture so I had no control over how the object (leaves) were falling. Taking a picture of a person was easier because I could move them to a spot that was convenient to me. This project was a good way to test angles of how I could take a quick picture of movement without it being a low quality, blurry photo. In conclusion, this project helped me appreciate how fast things can happen and how hard it is the capture the speed of them.

7 Days

This is my dog Bella. I got her when I was very young. She has been with my family through a lot. Bella is 11 years old and has a hard time moving on walks and  around the house. I am thankful to have as many years as I have had with her and I will make the best of it with the remaining time she has. 

I am thankful for shelter. I spend almost all of my time in this area of my house. My living room is where my siblings and I eat every night and do various activities in. We play board games and hangout with my extended  family in this very living room. A lot of memories have been made in this part of my house. 
I am thankful for warmth. In the winter season when it gets extra cold I love to sit by the fire. Sitting by a warm fire after a long day is the best feeling. Without a fire I would freeze so I am very happy to be able to have something to warm me up. 
I’m so thankful that a few years ago my sister and I got this camera to share. Originally she got it to take photos for photo shoots but now she uses it to make YouTube videos. It is very high quality really fun to mess around with, with my friends, on a walk, etc. I am so happy I have this camera to experiment with. 
I am so thankful for food. I love food because not everyone gets to have the privilege of eating 3 meals a day. I got to eat dinner with my family and have a blast on Thanksgiving. Not only am I thankful for being supplied with food, my mom made a home cooked meal for the whole family to enjoy. 
This is my extended family. recently we have not been able to see or visit them because they moved to New York. My family and I were not planning to be able to see then on Thanksgiving but it worked out that they could visit. It has been a tradition in my family that every year my cousins come and eat our family dinner with us and we catch up on what has happened since last Thanksgiving. 
This is my dad. My dad and I have gone through a lot together and we have made it through rough patches. He always inspires me by staying active and healthy. I hope to be like him and all that he has achieved when I grow up. I don’t know where I would be or what I would be doing without him. He always plays cards and other board games with my brother and I and when seeing him we never fail to have a terrific time.

Smile Project

In this project I was asked to take pictures of people at this school or outside of school and ask them if I could take their picture. The point of this was to see the difference in how you view people when you see a friendly smile or a straight face. This was a very cool experience because it made me realize how the first thing I saw impacted the way I perceived them. A challenge I faced was when I gathered enough courage to ask the people if I could take their picture was how awkward it is. I would ask and the people would think I was taking the picture for something other than a school project. Something that was easy was that after I explained what my intention was they let me snap the picture and the process was fast and easy. Overall, this project was a learning experience for me and my classmates.

5 Shots

For this project we had to take pictures of multiple different objects from 5 different angles, one of them had to be a person. One of the challenges I had with this project was having different angles, instead of just bringing the camera around the object. On the other hand, it was easy for me to find the objects to take pictures of because we had a choice on the 3 different objects. The hardest thing to take a picture of was my sister. This was the hardest in my opinion because she was suppose to stay in the same place but when she moved I had to start over. I also couldn’t have all the control I wanted when taking the pictures of her. I learned that angles aren’t the same thing as moving your camera, it is tilting and rotating it to get the right photograph. In conclusion I had a lot of fun from this project because of the freedom I had with this assignment and being able to choose are angles and what we took pictures of.

Light Graffiti

This assignment was a very cool experience for me. The purpose of this assignment was to make symbols, pictures, or words out of a light source. We used manual then set our ISO to it was lowest value to make the light graffiti. Then you set it to a certain amount of seconds for however long your picture takes to draw. A challenge I faced was getting the camera set up in order to let the camera turn the light into light graffiti. Something that was easy for me was shining the flashlight to make a symbol or shape. This was easy because wherever I moved the light would appear. Something I could improve for next time is making more complicated symbols or using multiple group members to complete it.

Rule of Thirds

In this project we used the rule of thirds setting in our phones to take pictures of objects. The point was to have the center of attention be the object in the third column. After looking at the object the point is to have your eyes look to the opposite side at what is surrounding. A challenge I faced in the midst of this project is making the object I took a picture of the focal point. What I found easy was taking pictures of people. This was easy for me because I could tell them to go anywhere or any place. The stationary objects weren’t always able to move. For example, when there was a tree surrounded by a bunch of other trees I couldn’t use it because there was no focal point. The people could be moved to other settings. In conclusion, this project was easy to understand and complete.

Portrait Photos

This project is taking portraits with dark backgrounds.  We had to make sure the person was in front of the light so their were no shadows on the board. We also had to edit the post by making the background darker and the figure (person) darker. One challenge I had was making sure there were no shadows on the person, also making sure the adjustments on the camera weren’t letting in too much light, thus ruining the picture. One thing that I found easy was making the background darker through the Photoshop app. This was easy because all we had to do is use the curved tool to darken the background and lighten the figure. In conclusion this project had some challenges but overall was very simple.
