This semester was a lot of fun and I had a fun time taking pictures. My thoughts have changed a lot about photography as the semester moved on. I have changed the way I take photos now from editing on photo shop to learning about F-stop and shutter speed. to make my photos look better. Getting close was my favorite project because the photos I took turned out great. Although I won’t pursue a career in photography, I will definitely consider taking it in High School because it was one of my favorite classes at LPMS.

Getting Close

For this project I used an app called VSCO to take my photos. I took pictures of living and non-living objects while getting as close as I could. I really liked editing on VSCO because it was very simple and had lots of different options for me to choose from. This was also the first time I used the app. The hardest part of the project was finding living things but once I found them the pictures turned out very well. I think that if I could I would take my pictures in the snow because it would look cool in the background.

Set In The Street

In this project, we had to take 4 photos at a kitchen table with 4 different emotions that occur at a table. We brought in Chick-Fil-A to use as our food and theme. This project was inspired by Justin Bettman and Carrie May Weems. I turned my photos black and white and used the curves tool on Fireworks to make my photos look better. If I could choose a place where I would take photos with my family it would be my living room because it is where we spend most of our time together. You would see us watching T.v. and talking to each other.

Action Pictures

In this project, we had to take 8 photos of motion without them being too blurry.  I took my photos with my phone. Although the photos weren’t in the best quality, I was able to take burst photos and all I had to do was choose the ones that looked the best. The best tip I have for the best action photos is to stay patient and don’t settle. If a photo doesn’t look good or is too blurry, retake the pictures until you get the perfect one. If I could photograph any sport I would take photos of NASCAR racing. I think this would be cool because the cars are moving at such a fast speed. I would also need to have a much better camera though to catch the perfect shot.

7 Days

I am thankful for my brother Luke because he is fun to be around and always makes people around him laugh.
7 photos
I am thankful for my Tim Tebow jersey because Florida is my favorite team and hardly never
disappoint.
I am thankful for football because it is my favorite sport and it has always been my favorite thing to do.
I am thankful for my christmas tree because it represents the holidays and all of the fun times with family.
I am thankful for Old Bay because it represents where I live and makes every other food better.
I am thankful for my speaker because I love to listen to music and music can help me in numerous ways.

Then I asked Them To Smile

The most difficult part of this project was asking strangers if they could take a picture because I am very introverted and won’t talk to people I don’t know. When I asked them to smile, their personalities seemed to change from when they weren’t smiling. Bias can affect the pictures that I took because if there was something negative that happened to someone, I wouldn’t take the best picture and I wouldn’t think that their smile was very meaningful. If I asked someone to take ”fair photos”, I would ask them about their background and experiences with strangers because it could show a whole different perspective through photos.

Light Graffiti

To take our pictures, we used flashlights from our phone and colored lights to include colors. On our camera, we had to change the ISO so that our lights could be seen in the dark without showing a lot of  the background. Also, we had to keep the shutter speed open for a long time so we could make the picture. We didn’t have to worry about time because we had the ”Bulb” setting on our camera so the shutter speed was open as long as we wanted. A problem that we had was that the camera was making me blurry so we had to refocus it a lot in order for it to focus it on me. Something that was frustrating was making our tree look organized and neat because we used two different colored lights to make it. To take this project to the next level, we could be doing the project with nobody else in the gym so that other peoples lights didn’t flash into our shot.

Rule of Thirds

In this project, finding pictures of people was very easy because all I had to have them do was stand next to a background with a little depth. The harder part was getting pictures of objects because it was hard getting a picture with only the object and background because most of the objects I used were small. When an object in your picture is moving, the rule of thirds makes the image a lot better which I didn’t know at first. The grid on my phone was used to organize the photo. When lining up my shot, I tried to line up the face of the person on the top part of the grid on where the two sides meet (Top left or top right).

Photos With Dark Background

For this project I had to change the shutter speed and the f stop and iso to create a darker background. To edit, I had to adjust some colors to fit into the black background. The lighting was hard to minimize because there were more shadows in our photos. Editing the brightness and contrast helped make the background more infinite worked very well and was quick and easy.

Portraits With Infinite Background

For this project we had to have someone stand by a white background, try do get the least amount of shadows in the photo, and shine a light on the background to reduce the amount of shadows. Then to edit, we had to go to photo shop and make the background all one color. The lighting in our photos worked very well but a lot of our photos were blurry.
