Last Project

During this semester, we had to take pictures in a certain way. This made each project different. My thoughts have changed about photography because I never knew there were so many ways to take pictures. This makes a difference between photos and makes photos more interesting. I have changed my way of taking photos because I have learned new ways to take them. The Getting Close project was my favorite because I liked how the object looked close up, compared to not close up. I wouldn’t continue photography during high school because I didn’t love photography class. You can see the rest of my photos here.

Getting Close

For this project we had to take 5 living and 5 non-living photos, but close up. In order to get better photos, I cropped the sides so the background isn’t showing. I think it was hard because some of my photos were blurry and I had to take them again. It was difficult to find living things, and it was easier to find non-living things. If I was able to take a photo of anything, I would choose to take a picture of a butterfly because I think they are very pretty. You can see the rest of my photos here.

Set in the Street

I think that this project was really fun. We had to take photos in a fake kitchen which was built in the school. Our project was inspired by Justin Bettmen. Our project set was inspired by Carrie Mae Weems. You can click the links to see their website. I used the Marquee, black and white, curves, and the cropping tool in Photoshop for this project. If I had a choice, I would take my photos in my kitchen. You would see my family and I eating, or me doing my homework. You can see the rest of my photos here.

7 Days

I am thankful for my mom and my stepdad because they always support me. They always give me advice and always helps me whenever I need it even if they are busy. My mom is very loving but can also be strict. My stepdad is very friendly and funny. I am very thankful and lucky to have great parents.
I am thankful for my dad. My dad is very funny and always makes me laugh. He is also really nice and helpful. He gives me good advice whenever I need it. I am very happy that I have a great dad.

I am very lucky to be able to have a phone. I am able to contact my family members that I don’t see often. I enjoy having a phone because I can texts my family and friends. Lastly, I like having a phone because I can take pictures whenever I want which is very convenient.
I am very thankful to have an amazing sister because she is very supportive and is very funny. She is a always nice to me even when she is mad or annoyed at me. My sister is a thoughtful person and doesn’t get on my nerves too much. I am very happy that I have an amazing sister.
I am thankful for all of my photos from my phone or my Polaroid camera. I like having pictures all around my room because they remind me fun memories. It also reminds me of the great places I’ve been to such as Barcelona and Paris.
I am very thankful to have a piano. I like practicing whenever I have free time. I am also thankful to have a good quality piano because it has lasted me for many years, and it still sounds great.
I am thankful for my Polaroid camera because I think it is really fun taking pictures that print immediately.  I think it is convenient to be able to take it anywhere. I always use it during the summer and put my photos in an album.

Smile

For this project we had to take pictures of 15 people, with one photo of them smiling and one without smiling. The most difficult part of this project was to ask people if I could take pictures of them. This was hard for me because I felt very uncomfortable. The changes I see between the 2 photos are that the people look much more happy in the smiling picture. It is like they have a different personality. Bias can affect my job as a photographer because if I walk passed someone not smiling or looking very serious, I wouldn’t ask them if I could take a picture of them. I would ask my clients to talk about their day and what they like to do. This is a chance to take a fair photo because people don’t always have to smile in all photos. You can see my photos here.

Light Graffiti

We took our photos using bulb settings. We took the pictures in the gym. The steps we used was shinning the light on the person first if they wanted to be shown in the photos. Next we drew the whatever art they wanted and ended the photo. Putting the camera on bulb mode worked because we can open and close the shutter whenever we wanted to. It was frustrating when the drawing turned out bad or when there was a trail of light in the corner of the photo. I think to take this project to the next level you can become better at making drawings. You can see the rest of my photos here.

Rule of Thirds

What worked for this project was moving the object closer to the left or to the right because that will meet the criteria for Rule of Thirds. What didn’t work was placing the object or person in the center because it wouldn’t be Rule of Thirds. I used the lines because they helped me determine where the object should be through my camera lens. I either put the camera closer to the right or to the left depending on where I want the object to be. You can find my photos here. Below are my two favorite photos.

Black Background

The process my group used was to shine the light not too high or low but closer to their face. For editing my photos I made the image darker and the light a little brighter. I cropped the image near the edges and sides. This made my photos have a better quality because there was no natural light coming from the corners. Shinning the light closer to their face worked especially if they had darker hair. This made their hair blend in with the black background and made the picture look darker. Shinning it away from their face didn’t work as much because the middle of their body would be bright while their face was dark. See the rest of my photos here.

Portraits

During this project, we had to take photos with a white background and no shadows. The process we used was shinning the light in the correct position. When editing the photos, I cropped the photos and adjusted the white background using the curves button. Shinning the bright higher  up worked more and created less shadows. Shinning the bright lower didn’t work because you could see the shadows but you would have to crop the image a lot more. Click here to see the rest of my photos.

1 Object, 5 Shots

For this assignment we had to choose one object, but take a picture of it in 5 different positions. The challenging part of this assignment was making sure that the position of the object in each picture is not too similar to any other photos. The photograph that was the hardest in my project was the picture of the shoe. I did my friends shoe, and it was hard to get in the certain angles in order to make the pictures different. This project helped me learn how to take photos in different positions. It taught me how to take a variety of photos. It showed me how a picture can look different even though it is the same object.
