Last Project

This year I learned as a student in photography that most people didn’t even know about their phone’s true potential. Scenes, objects, people, and so much more can be discovered or interpreted in different ways through just one photograph. The whole semester I learned this and how to really create a great picture with just my phone. This semester of photography has changed my whole perspective on photography by introducing me to many new experiences taking amazing photos. My photos will never be the same because of this semester, teaching me how to capture well-taken photos whenever I have my phone out. My favorite project of the semester was the Close Up Project that made us use our phones to zoom in to take a picture of objects that could be easily passed by someone that hadn’t even noticed the object in it’s actual size. This was my favorite project because the pictures that I had taken for this project came out being really well. For example, the picture shown above is one of my personal favorites from that project and out of all the pictures I took this semester. Photography this semester has interested me very much along with some of the pictures I’ve taken. My experience in this class has persuade me to keep taking photography in high school, and maybe even regard photography as a future career.

Getting Up Close

In this project we had to zoom in on our phones to get a close up picture of the object or person we were going to take a picture of. This project was easy for me though because I had plenty of ideas that worked out great for my close up pictures. I tried to look outside the box for my pictures, finding everyday things that would be easily passed by someone not even paying attention to their surroundings. The challenge that came with this project was that my camera would focus fast when I tried to take pictures. If I had to take a picture of something with the proper equipment I would take a picture of the Eiffel Tower because I’ve always wanted to go to Paris.

Kitchen Table

This project was based on pictures taken by Justin Bettman who creates scenes in the middle of a public space that doesn’t match the public area. We took pictures in this scene in the middle of an open area in the front of our school. Then we edited our pictures to make them look similar to Carrie Mae Weems’ work . To edit our pictures we used Photoshop. In Photoshop we used the marquee tool to make the shape of the darkened, shadow part of our photos. Then to adjust the darkness on the shadow part we used the black and white graph tool. If I were to capture my family’s story in a place it would be in my family’s living room because we spend most of our time in the living work either watching tv, doing work, sleeping, eating, etc. . You would see our tv, couch, coffee table, fish tank, our fire place and a couple of blankets and pillows.

Action/Motion Project

This project was about taking photos of things or people in motion. I used my own phone to capture the moving people/objects in my pictures. I knew that it was okay for the main person or thing to be a little blurry because it was in motion. But if the picture was too blurry I had to restart and take another  picture. I had to edit my pictures to make them fit with what the person was doing. For example, I had a black and white background for someone falling because that scene is sad. One tip I have for photographers that are taking picture of people or things in motion is that you have to time the person’s motion or the object’s motion so that your picture doesn’t turn out to be a blurry mess. If I were to be a photographer for a certain sport I would choose soccer because I love to play it and I would be able to meet famous soccer players that I could take pictures of while they play in a game.

7 Days

I’m thankful for my bed. Some kids aren’t fortunate enough to have a bed of their own. I’m thankful that I get to sleep in my very own comfortable and warm bed. My bed keeps me warm during the cold winter nights and I feel well rested when I wake up.

I’m thankful for my sink because it provides clean running water. Some people aren’t as fortunate to have clean0 running water like I am. I wish everyone was, but I can’t control that unfortunately.

I’m thankful for putting up my Christmas lights with my dad. I don’t always want to do it, but my dad always drags me outside and we have fun seeing all the lights on the bushes and on my porch.

My mom makes her homemade cookies all the time and they are really good. I love every time she cooks and I am thankful for my mom’s cooking and food.

I’m thankful for my soccer team because I love playing soccer all the time. I go to practice 3 times a week. My team is plays well with each other which helps us win most of our games.

This is a picture of my pet fish. I am thankful for my pet fish because he’s the best pet ever. Whenever I come by to feed him he always comes up to the top.

I am thankful for setting up my family’s Christmas tree with my family. We do it every Christmas together and it’s always fun when we do it. Even though my dad and I have to bring up the boxes full of ornaments which are heavy, we still enjoy putting up all of the ornamnets on our tree.

Smile Project

This project was about taking two drastically different pictures of people to be able to see how facial expressions change the way we perceive things. When I took pictures of people that I didn’t know, the changes were very different. The moment their smiles changed, it looked like they were an entirely different person. The challenges that came with this project were being able to go up to strangers and asking if I could take their picture. Bias can affect  me as a photographer by leading me to believe or judge someone or something a different way. This way may lead to wrong assumptions accused against someone or something that the I see.  As a photographer I would ask the people I’m taking a picture of if they can smile and not smile so that they would know exactly what to do when I take the pictures. The easy part about this project was taking good photos of each person smiling or not smiling.

Light Graffiti

This project was about taking pictures in the dark while using lights to make scenes and or regular pictures. The light made visible and glowing lines in mid air. We used our phone flashlights and light up finger rings to make our scenes. The challenges that came with this project were making sure the lights were in  the right place. We also had to make our scenes fast before the picture was taken. The easiest part of this project was coming up with our scenes.

Rule Of Thirds

In this project we used the rule of thirds to make people or objects in a specific place, either on the right or left. I took pictures with my phone for this project. The project was hard to complete because my phone isn’t the best camera to use, but it still was able to get the right photos. An easy part to accomplish the project was finding the right objects to take pictures of around my house.

Portrait Photos

This project was about taking pictures with dark backgrounds. The light was focused on us to reveal our faces in the dark. The pictures were taken up close to get a better picture of our faces up close. The challenges that came with this project were, mostly about the camera focusing on the person’s face. Another challenge that came with the project was that the light had to be at just angle. This project also had some easy parts that went by quickly like when we had to edit the pictures to make us look lighter in the background.

5 Camera Angles

This project was about taking pictures of 5 different angles of an object. The project wasn’t that easy to accomplish. Some challenges I faced was finding the right angles of each object to make the pictures look good. I also struggled with finding the right object to take my pictures of. Although these two things were challenging, I found that taking pictures of object was easier that taking pictures of people. The most challenging thing that I had to take a picture of was of my sister.
