Final Project

This whole semester we struggled to take pictures without having it being taken by others, it was very complicated but got your mind thinking, if someone had the same idea as you, you would do something else to make it better. My thoughts changed on photography greatly, I enjoy taking pictures and I finally learned how to take pictures better with the techniques this time. I have changed the way I took pictures a lot. My favorite project was the rule of thirds because when we took pics then, the lighting was very good for pictures. Photography interests me a lot as a career and I will definitely go through with it during high school.

Close Up – Alexis Jacob

This project was based on pictures that were taken close up, you may not be able to determine what is in the picture until told what it is at first which can keep my audience guessing. I used my phone and tried my best to take my pictures when nobody saw because they tend to take ideas others think of. My challenges were getting it to focus on it when close up, some things I tried to take a picture of would just not focus so I couldn’t achieve some pictures I’d hope for. I’d like to take a picture of a very fluffy dogs fur close up, a white dog preferably because people can question whether it’s a arctic fox, those white fluffy rugs, or even the dog itself. You can find the rest of my pictures here.

Set In The Street – Alexis

This project was all about thinking outside the box, almost literally. We were assigned to make our scene with the walls and table, it was one small scene and you got to make your imagination flow with it. These pictures are all inspired by a New York based photographer known as Justin Bettman. Carrie Mae Weems was also an inspiration especially for the background of this scene (walls, light, table) she called it the kitchen project. If I could set a scene for my family I think it would be in a car, it’s where we’re all mainly together.

Catch the Action

This project was to take a picture in action, no not suspense pictures but literally in action. I mainly just tried to think out of the box on things others wouldn’t do. Instead of bringing my own props I used props that you can find anywhere such as leaves. If you are using a camera instead of the phone camera make sure the shutter speed is fast or it won’t catch the action in time. I’d do soccer because the ball will fly across the field making it a good shot to take. You can find the rest of my pictures here.

7 Pictures

This is my dog Bella, she came unexpectedly but I still love her
Ah Asra, even though you’re my friend I’m still scared that you’ll attack me. But then again you’d be a great body guard! I appreciate that you haven’t killed me yet.
I am grateful for this rainbow because I love rainbows

Smile

Lots of people said no to this project and something else that made it difficult was how we couldn’t ask people we knew, it had to be complete strangers. The changes I see are actually depending on who you asked. Some people made a weird smile on purpose and then had a normal face without emotion. It sets your mind to either have them in a specific pose or in a specific background that matches who they are. You could ask how their emotions are at the moment, how people react to you without knowing you, etc. The pictures are here.

Light Graffiti – Alexis Jacob

In this project we had to use specific camera settings to create a light graffiti with lights we brought with us. First we had to keep the lights off in the gym so the lights would be able to be seen, then we had to switch the bulb so we can keep the picture going until we said it was done. Otherwise it would have to be about 10 seconds of doing everything as fast as you can. Nothing worked in the light so that was something that was frustrating. If you really wanted to do something that was outside the box try and draw something people usually can’t draw themselves. You can find the rest of the pictures here.

Rule of Thirds – Alexis Jacob

We had to take pictures with the rule of thirds. My phone was able to have the grid to use rule of thirds without any errors of not knowing where to take the picture therefore it made it a lot easier to accomplish. What didn’t work out was when we weren’t allowed to go outside because inside most of the the school had bad lighting or it just seemed plane. The best place I found with good lighting inside was the stairs making it easier for this project since we weren’t allowed to take pictures outside that day. Our setup would be on where the angle should be that would make the rule of thirds really noticeable. I would have one of my friends go in a specific spot that brings out the law and good lighting onto them. We had to move the cameras more to the sides so it would meet up with the lines. At first I thought we were gonna have to take pictures inside which I wasn’t happy about but then we ended up going outside. It seems like a very unique way to take pictures and really brings out the surroundings as well.

Black Background

Our group had to take pictures of everyone in the group with a black background. We had to cover half the light with our bodies and and made the shutter slower. We kept changing the settings trying to find a way to take them efficiently. You can find the rest of the photos here.

Portraits |Alexis Jacob| ~Pd1~

This was a tough project, the manual settings had made it hard to understand everything but our main goal was to take pictures and the background had to be completely white. The light being put behind us was the best way to do this, what didn’t work though was the yellow lights above us, I feel like it tinted it more making it harder to do the project.
